Meet the Team

A two-agent California-based fixed-insurance practice. We help retirees and pre-retirees with fixed indexed annuities, indexed universal life, and the income-coordination work that surrounds them.

Independent. Focused. Accountable.

Hafnia Insurance Services is independent — we are not employees of any insurance carrier, and we are not part of a captive agency. We typically work with 15–20 different carriers, selected for financial strength and product suitability, and recommend the products that fit each client's specific situation in accordance with California's Best Interest Standard for annuity recommendations (Insurance Code §10509.910 et seq.).

We sell only fixed insurance products — fixed indexed annuities, indexed universal life, and, where a client needs it, a referral to a long-term care specialist. We do not sell securities, mutual funds, variable annuities, Medicare plans, or provide investment advisory services. When a prospect's situation calls for those products, we refer them to qualified professionals who do.

If you have a CPA and a financial planner already, we work alongside them — not instead of them.

Jan Gleisner

President · Hafnia Insurance Services

Background

Jan founded Hafnia Insurance Services to focus on a specific kind of work: helping retirees and pre-retirees use fixed insurance products thoughtfully — as one component of a coordinated retirement plan, not as a one-size-fits-all solution. He's been a licensed insurance professional in California since 2002 and focuses on retirement income strategies built with fixed insurance products. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Business and Master's degrees in Business and in Communication.

Jan works primarily with pre-retirees and people in the early years of retirement — the period when income decisions, tax-bracket coordination, and protection planning all need to come together. Clients typically come to him with most of the pieces already in place: a Social Security claiming question, a 401(k) rollover decision, a pension lump-sum offer to evaluate, or an inherited account with tax implications to think through.

Approach

"My goal is to help people get the most out of their assets, and to involve them in the process so they can make good decisions."

Jan's practice is built around a simple idea: most retirement plans need protection, but not all of a retiree's savings should be protected. A retired physician with $3M in a brokerage account doesn't need to put it all into annuities. A widow whose husband's pension just stopped may need a guaranteed-income solution for a meaningful portion of her savings. The right answer depends on the rest of the plan.

Jan spends the first conversation understanding what's already in place — Social Security claiming plans, pension elections, existing investments, estate documents — before discussing what fixed insurance might add.

Personal

Jan is based in San Diego, where he enjoys an active lifestyle outside of work. In his free time, he can often be found cooking, playing tennis or padel, and enjoying the outdoors. Most of all, Jan values spending quality time with family and friends.

Jonathan Garcia

VP Business Development · Hafnia Insurance Services

Background

Jonathan holds an active California insurance license (#0M88750) and is also licensed in several other states. He was first licensed in the insurance industry in 2018 and returned to active licensure in 2024. He has built his career on a client-first approach.

His educational background includes the University Innovation Fellowship at Stanford's Hasso Plattner Institute of Design and the National Student Leadership Conference on Business Management, held at Yale University. He conducts consultations in English.

Approach

Jonathan focuses on guiding clients through the planning conversation itself — making sure each person understands what's being recommended, why it fits, and how it integrates with the rest of their plan. He spends time on the questions clients are sometimes hesitant to ask, and treats the educational side of the work as inseparable from the product side.

Personal

Outside of work, Jonathan enjoys staying active and making the most of his time outdoors. Whether he’s surfing at the beach, weight training, camping, or simply spending time with those closest to him, he values an active lifestyle and quality time with family and friends.

Where We're Licensed.

Hafnia Insurance Services, Inc. is a California agency (CA Insurance License #6020269), and we hold licenses in a number of other states. Jan (CA License #0D77385) and Jonathan (CA License #0M88750) are each licensed in California and in several other states — and the two lists aren't identical. So the first thing we check is where you live.

When you book a discovery call or send us a message, we'll ask for your state of residence and route you to whichever of us is licensed there. If neither of us holds a license in your state, we'll tell you straight away and point you to NAIC.org and your state's insurance department so you can find a qualified independent agent.

We only work where we're licensed — even if you ask us to make an exception.

Our process is the same whether you're a $50K or $5M client.

Both deserve a thorough conversation before any product recommendation.

1

Discovery Call (free, 30 min)

We learn what's already in place — Social Security plans, pensions, existing accounts, family situation, estate documents. We don't pitch products in this call.

2

Strategy Review (free, 60 min)

We walk through specific products, carriers, and contract features appropriate for your situation — with a written summary you can share with your CPA or planner.

3

Carrier Application

Only if you decide to proceed. We manage underwriting, paperwork, and policy issue throughout.

4

Annual Review

We check in once a year minimum — carriers change, products change, your situation changes, your strategy should be reviewed accordingly.

The insurance carrier pays us a commission when a contract is issued — you don't write us a check. That commission is built into how the carrier prices the product (its caps, participation rates, spreads and surrender-charge schedule), so it isn't free. If you'd like to know the commission on any product we recommend, ask and we'll tell you.
